More on Nationalism and Osler

Sir William Osler (1849-1919) was a Canadian physician who was a cofounder of the Johns Hopkins school of Medicine and had great influence in the development of modern medical practice. The quote
"Nationalism has been the great curse of humanity. In no other shape has the Demon of Ignorance assumed more hideous proportions; to no other obsession do we yield ourselves more readily" is from page 271 of his work Aequanimitas. I have found it in the following two sources that I have consulted.

Page 71 (Quote No. 212) in: M. E. Silverman, MD, T. J. Murray, MD, C. S. Bryan, MD The Quotable OSLER, American College of Physicians, 2003
and
Page 42 in: Charles S. Bryan, MD OSLER: Inspirations from a Great Physician, Oxford Univ. Press, 1997.

The first source contains a longer part of Osler's text. The full quote is below.:

"Nationalism has been the great curse of humanity. In no other shape has the Demon of Ignorance assumed more hideous proportions; to no other obsession do we yield ourselves more readily. A vice of the blood, of the plasm rather, it runs riot in the race, and rages today as of yore in spite of the precepts of religion and the practice of democracy."
